STATE
If you think that dominating Region 19 is exciting, wait till the next week at 1A State Cross Country.
On the brisk Wednesday morning of the State Meet, the Girls raced first. Throughout the thrilling course, Lily Long, a freshman easily stayed in the top 5, as the close of the race, she place fourth overall. The next Lady Buckaroo who placed was sophomore Serra St. Clair with 19th overall, next Lady Buckaroo to cross the finish line was Kennedy Brewer, with 23rd, and the last Lady Buckaroo to cross the threshold, was Halle Morrison in 33rd. The girls raced very well, and swept away a third place trophy!
After the Girls XC team taking the third place trophy, the Boys team raced next. It would be an easy assumption to favor MHS to become repeat State Champions. Yet, you had to be there to see it! Wit the fiery start of the race, Adam Bunker led the way! He was followed closely by Alan Petit, Cory Bunker and Hyrum Johnson. All MHS Boys! As the race closed, Adam crossed the finish line with a time of 16:32.8, he finished so fast, that the staff didn't have time to set up the ribbon for him to break. As he caught his breathe, the staff quickly walked in front of him and he was able to walk through the ribbon. With teammates, Alan, Cory and Hyrum on his heels, the MHS Boys placed 1st Adam Bunker, 2nd Alan Petit, 3rd Cory Bunker, and 4th Hyrum Johnson. This would make a perfect score! As the next top ten runners crossed the finish line, Lucas Hatch snatched 8th place overall. Boston Freestone came in at 11th place and Dylan Bird came in 16th place overall. Thus, naming the MHS Boys Cross Country Team State Champions, back to back. First in 2017 and now in 2018.

Buckaroo FOOTball
With head Coach Reed Anderson, Monticello Buckaroo Football saw an exciting season. With many ups and downs, wins and losses, the boys fought hard. The Bucks played so well they made it to the Quarter Finals were they faced the Rich Rebels. Earlier in the season the Boys played Rich and won, giving hope for this Quarter Final game. As the Boys loaded the bus for the eternal, excruciating, ride to Rich, they were ready to play. The final score of that game was 41-0. With the next week fast approaching the Buckaroos traveled the Payson High School were they would face the Milford Tiger in the Semifinals. With a student bus that travled to the game, the First Ward Youth Conference and many more fans and parents, the Boys fought and ultimately fell to the Tigers. On a postive note, the Boys were led by fantastic seniors, Gage Wilcox #60, Matt Beh #5, and Mark Beh #11.
